experience the night life in adelboden

20/12/14

Today was the first real day of actual work.  Half of the vollies were off, so it was only Sarah, Charlotte and I were working.

We begun with re-setting the beds which the children had slept in overnight after the Christmas Celebration.  Then we cleaned bathrooms and folded laundry.  Really exciting stuff.

We organised lunch at about 12 and served at 12.30.  However we had been so efficient in the morning that Nikki had no further jobs for us to do. So we cleaned up lunch and then had the afternoon off.

Charlotte and I attempted to go Geo-Caching.  However, after finally getting the gps' to work and then working out the co-ordinates, and then walking down the hill in the wrong direction (then back up the hill) we gave up.  Instead we just relaxed in Stockli until 4.30 when we had to cook dinner (Dinner was chilli con carn if you are interested!).

After dinner and clean up was when the night got interesting.  At someone's idea we decided to head into Adelboden to 'experience the night life'.  As part of our staff challenge we had to experience three different night life locations within Adelboden.

After spending at least 30 mins discussing whether we were walking or being driven (no one actually went and asked), and then trying to locate Megan (our new short term volunteer, she was a summer vollie this year too), we finally got into the car to drive into town.  It was a whole 7.30 pm when we left.

Miguel drove us in to town initially and dropped us off at the post office/ bus station.

First stop was the Time out Pub.  Cheap drinks and good atmosphere!

After the Time Out Pub we tried several other places which were still closed or too expensive! It was only about 9 ish so still being closed was acceptable... we were just really keen.

We ended up in a pub, which Megan called 'sketchy'.  However it wasn't too bad... once you got over the smokers in the entrance and the tea bags on the roof (below).  We don't know why!?  Anyways they were fairly cheap too so we had more drinks there too!

After we had finished our drinks and had experience the overly friendly Swiss men, one of whom decided that he liked the stripes on my cardigan and told me very loudly he like the 'sailor look' and shouted 'maritime!'.  This was only after he had spoken for five mins in German which none of us understood.... We decided that it was time to experience another location, and hence we walked down the the Disco.  Unfortunately this was closed and some of the girls were keen to head home, so we headed back up the hill to the post office/ bus station to be picked up by Miguel.  We lasted a whole 2.5hrs!

This is Megan, Danielle and Ana in a phone both trying to keep warm...
