christmas in the alps

22/12/14

This morning I was up early because I was on guest breakfast.  Breakfast took a lot longer than expected, as did its clean up!

At 9 am, we had the opening ceremony for the Christmas In the Alps week.  Everyone was welcomed to the Chalet with the original speech by Falk, and then were given their official Our Chalet pins, the ones you can only get if you visit the Chalet.  Then we sung the Chalet song and raised the flag to signify we were home.  Each family or group was invited to place the flag of their home country on the flag log, or 'flog' as the staff call it.

After the opening ceremony it was Onsite Day.  Originally this was supposed to be snow activities, however as there was no snow, we couldn't do that.  Instead Mum and them went up to the top of the mountain, and the program ladies here ran orienteering. I had morning meeting at 9.30 am and after we set about the list of jobs Nikki had set us.

Lunch was leftovers and salad for the staff, which we helped clean up afterwards.  We then had a break until two, when I met Miguel to go to the recycling centre in town.  We returned about 3 ish and I joined in on the craft activities in the Dining Room.  We burned our names into pegs, made Swis paper cuttings on black paper and made snow flakes.

At 4 pm, Charlotte and I went to help Megan make dinner - Cottage pie and Vegetables.

This evening after dinner, Schooley, Charlotte and I lead a hike to the Magic Tree.  We hiked in the dark with head torches.  Chloe had set up candles for us around the tree so it looked even more magical when we got there.

It only took us about an hour to hike there and back. We stopped along the way to look at the lights of the village and the stars on the way back.. unfortunately they don't look as amazing in photos.
